God's Hand in Your History

In 1 Samuel 9:1, which says, "¶ Now there was a man of Benjamin, whose name was Kish, the son of Abiel, the son of Zeror, the son of Bechorath, the son of Aphiah, a Benjamite, a mighty man of power.," we find a genealogy that establishes identity and belonging. This record introduces the lineage of Israel’s first king, revealing how God prepared the way through a respected family in Benjamin—a tribe renowned for bravery, as noted in Judges 20:16.

Kish is called a "mighty man of power." The Hebrew term ḥayil denotes more than physical strength; it encompasses resourcefulness, wealth, and influence. While 1 Samuel 16:7 reminds us that God prioritizes the heart, this verse demonstrates how He utilizes our family standing and resources to position us for His purposes.
