Confirmed: The Unshakeable Law of God's Love

In a world where contracts are broken, commitments falter, and promises often fade, where do we find true, unshakeable stability? We find it by looking back at the magnificent, historical fidelity of God, recounted in the grand hymn of Psalm 105.

The Psalmist reminds us that the foundational promises God made to Abraham and Isaac were not temporary agreements. They were made permanent, established for the generations to follow, as Psalm 105:10 declares:

And confirmed the same unto Jacob for a law, [and] to Israel [for] an everlasting covenant:

Notice the power of the language here. God didn’t just suggest a relationship; He confirmed it—He made it stand firm and unshakeable. The promise was handed down to Jacob (whose name means 'supplanter') and established as a binding, unchangeable ordinance, or a “law” (law). When God confirms something for a law, it carries the full weight of His sovereign authority.

Then, the promise extends from the individual patriarch, Jacob, to the entire collective entity, Israel, and is secured as an everlasting covenant. This covenant is perpetual, unbreakable, and rooted entirely in God’s character, not in the shifting sands of human obedience. It means God’s commitment to His people, past and present, is eternal.

Application: Resting in Perpetual Promise

This historical truth offers profound security for us today. We are heirs of the covenant promises through faith in Christ, the true seed of Abraham (Galatians 3:16). When life feels chaotic, and our circumstances threaten to overwhelm us, we remember that our hope is not built on human effort or fleeting feelings. Our hope is anchored in the divine decree of God’s everlasting covenant.

His promises—to forgive our sins, to never leave us, and to work all things for our good—are not temporary suggestions. They are foundational decrees that act as the unshakeable law of our lives, giving us the confidence needed to persevere (Hebrews 6:13-18). If God was immutably faithful across millennia to Jacob and Israel, He is certainly faithful to you, His child, today. Rest in the certainty that what God has confirmed, no power can undo.
