Moreover David and the captains of the host set apart for the service certain of the sons of Asaph, and of Heman, and of Jeduthun, who should prophesy with harps, with psalteries, and with cymbals: and the number of them that did the work according to their service was:
of the sons of Asaph: Zaccur, and Joseph, and Nethaniah, and Asharelah, the sons of Asaph, under the hand of Asaph, who prophesied after the order of the king.
Of Jeduthun; the sons of Jeduthun: Gedaliah, and Zeri, and Jeshaiah, Hashabiah, and Mattithiah, six, under the hands of their father Jeduthun with the harp, who prophesied in giving thanks and praising Jehovah.
Of Heman; the sons of Heman: Bukkiah, Mattaniah, Uzziel, Shebuel, and Jerimoth, Hananiah, Hanani, Eliathah, Giddalti, and Romamti-ezer, Joshbekashah, Mallothi, Hothir, Mahazioth.
All these were under the hands of their father for song in the house of Jehovah, with cymbals, psalteries, and harps, for the service of the house of God; Asaph, Jeduthun, and Heman being under the order of the king.
And the number of them, with their brethren that were instructed in singing unto Jehovah, even all that were skilful, was two hundred fourscore and eight.
for the four and twentieth to Romamtiezer, his sons and his brethren, twelve.

Study Notes for 1 Chronicles 25
Verse 1
who should prophesy with harps — Naba, to prophesy, joined to the music, as with the company of prophets who met Saul 'with a psaltery, and a tabret, and a pipe, and a harp before them; and they shall prophesy' (1 Sam 10:5). 'Separated' is badal, the word used of Aaron in 23:13.
Verse 3
six — Five sons are named here, and the sixth, Shimei, appears at v.17. 'Under the hands of their father' means under his direction. The sons 'prophesied with a harp, to give thanks and to praise the LORD', with yadah and halal, the two verbs of the Levites' daily duty in 23:30.
Verse 5
the king's seer in the words of God — Chozeh, a seer, the title of Gad, 'David's seer' (21:9). 'To lift up the horn' (qeren, horn) is the language of Hannah's song, 'mine horn is exalted in the LORD' (1 Sam 2:1). Heman is 'the son of Joel, the son of Shemuel' (6:33), and Samuel's firstborn was Joel (1 Sam 8:2).
Verse 7
instructed in the songs of the LORD — Lamad, to teach: the singers were trained. Two hundred eighty-eight is twenty-four courses of twelve each (vv.9–31). 'Cunning' is bin, discerning, the root of the 'teacher' in v.8.
Verse 8
the teacher as the scholar — The lot was cast 'ward against ward', turn by turn (mishmereth, a watch, the word of 23:32), with no regard to rank: 'as well the small as the great'. 'Scholar' (talmid, a pupil) occurs only here in the Old Testament.
Verse 9
the first lot came forth for Asaph to Joseph — The twenty-four heads of the courses are the sons of the three masters: four of Asaph (v.2), six of Jeduthun (v.3 and v.17) and fourteen of Heman (v.4). Joseph, a son of Asaph, takes the first lot and Gedaliah of Jeduthun the second, each 'twelve' with his sons and brethren.
