  1. And when the Lord thy God shall have brought thee into the land, for which he swore to thy fathers Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob: and shall have given thee great and goodly cities, which thou didst not build,

  2. Houses full of riches, which thou didst not set up, cisterns which thou didst not dig, vineyards and oliveyards, which thou didst not plant,

  3. And thou shalt have eaten and be full:

  4. That when thou hast eaten, and art full, thou mayst bless the Lord thy God for the excellent land which he hath given thee.

  5. Take heed, and beware lest at any time thou forget the Lord thy God, and neglect his commandments and judgments and ceremonies, which I command thee this day:

  6. Lest after thou hast eaten and art filled, hast built goodly houses, and dwelt in them,

  7. And shalt have herds of oxen and flocks of sheep, and plenty of gold and of silver, and of all things,

  8. Thy heart be lifted up, and thou remember not the Lord thy God, who brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage:

  9. And was thy leader in the great and terrible wilderness, wherein there was the serpent burning with his breath, and the scorpion and the dipsas, and no waters at all: who brought forth streams out of the hardest rock,

  10. And fed thee in the wilderness with manna which thy fathers knew not. And after he had afflicted and proved thee, at the last he had mercy on thee,

  11. Lest thou shouldst say in thy heart: My own might, and the strength of my own hand have achieved all these things for me.

  12. But remember the Lord thy God, that he hath given thee strength, that he might fulfil his covenant, concerning which he swore to thy fathers, as this present day sheweth.

  13. For I will bring them into the land, for which I swore to their fathers, that floweth with milk and honey. And when they have eaten, and are full and fat, they will turn away after strange gods, and will serve them: and will despise me, and make void my covenant.

  14. The beloved grew fat, and kicked: he grew fat, and thick and gross, he forsook God who made him, and departed from God his saviour.

  15. The Lord maketh poor and maketh rich, he humbleth and he exalteth:

  16. For in thee, O Lord, have I hoped: thou wilt hear me, O Lord my God.

  17. Treasures of wickedness shall profit nothing: but justice shall deliver from death.

  18. The blessing of the Lord maketh men rich: neither shall affliction be joined to them.

  19. Riches shall not profit in the day of revenge: but justice shall deliver from death.

  20. He that trusteth in his riches shall fall: but the just shall spring up as a green leaf.

  21. One is as it were rich, when he hath nothing and another is as it were poor, when he hath great riches.

  22. The ransom of a man's life are his riches: but he that is poor, beareth not reprehension.

  23. The crown of the wise, is their riches: the folly of fools, imprudence.

  24. The house of the just is very much strength: and in the fruits of the wicked is trouble.
