God Finishes What He Starts

Have you ever started a project—a painting, a home repair, or a book—only to leave it half-finished in the closet? We often lose steam, but God never does. If you feel as though your life is a mess of loose ends, today's promise is for you.

In Psalms 138:8, David writes, "The LORD will perfect that which concerneth me: thy mercy, O LORD, endureth for ever: forsake not the works of thine own hands.." This is not merely a hopeful wish; it is a bold declaration. The Hebrew word for "perfect" here is gāmar, which means to bring something to its full end. God does not view your life as a failed experiment or a discarded draft. He is a Master Craftsman committed to finishing every detail of the work He began in you.

Our confidence rests not on our own effort, but on God's character. David points to God's "mercy," or ḥesed. This word describes a loyal, covenant love that refuses to give up. Just as Philippians 1:6 reminds us that He who began a good work in us will carry it to completion, we can rest knowing that God’s hands are still active in our lives today. He will not walk away from what He has personally shaped.

Application

Today, take one specific area of your life that feels unfinished—perhaps a broken relationship, a career struggle, or a personal habit. Instead of worrying, tell God: "I trust that You are still working here." Remind yourself that you are the work of His hands, and He doesn't make mistakes.

Lord, thank You for not giving up on me when I feel incomplete. I trust Your loyal love to finish the good work You've started in my life. Amen.
