God’s Hidden Hand of Provision

Have you ever felt like you’ve reached a total dead end? Naomi certainly did. After losing her husband and sons in a foreign land, she returned home feeling completely empty, as she admits in Ruth 1:21. She thought her story was over, unaware that God was already orchestrating circumstances she could not yet see.

The very next chapter begins with a glimmer of hope. Ruth 2:1 tells us, "¶ And Naomi had a kinsman of her husband's, a mighty man of wealth, of the family of Elimelech; and his name was Boaz.." While Naomi was focused on her bitterness, the narrator introduces Boaz. He is described as a môwdāʿ, a term for a kinsman or known relative. This was not just a coincidence; it was a divine connection. In the family of God, you are never as alone as you feel. God always keeps a kinsman nearby, someone He has prepared to help carry your burden.

Boaz is also called a mighty man of wealth. The Hebrew word for mighty is gibbôr, which implies strength, valor, and influence. He was a man of substance and character. Just as Boaz had the resources and the heart to help Naomi and Ruth, we serve a God who is our ultimate Redeemer. As Psalm 146:7 reminds us, the Lord executes judgment for the oppressed and gives food to the hungry. He is never short on resources to care for you.

Application

Today, instead of dwelling on what you have lost, ask God to open your eyes to the 'Boaz' in your life. Look for small provisions—a helpful neighbor, an unexpected check, or a timely word of encouragement. These are signs that God's hidden hand is working for your good.

Lord, thank You that You are working behind the scenes of my life even when I feel empty. Help me to trust Your timing and Your perfect provision. Amen.
