Is Your Heart Fully In It?

Have you ever found yourself going through the motions? You say the right words and do the right things, but your thoughts are miles away. It is easy to look like a "good Christian" on the outside while feeling completely disconnected on the inside. But as we see in the life of King Amaziah, God is far more interested in our motives than our checklists.

The Bible gives us a sobering evaluation of this king's leadership. 2 Chronicles 25:2 tells us, "And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, but not with a perfect heart.." On the surface, Amaziah was a success. He followed the law and administered justice fairly at the start of his reign. To any human observer, he looked like a godly leader. However, God saw a divide between Amaziah's hands and his heart. He was doing the "right" things, but his devotion was split.

The Hebrew word for perfect used here is shalem. This doesn't mean Amaziah was expected to be sinless or flawless. Instead, it means to be "whole," "complete," or "undivided." It describes a heart that is fully surrendered to God without any hidden corners or competing loyalties. God doesn't want a performance; He wants us. As 1 Samuel 16:7 reminds us, while people look at the outward appearance, the Lord looks straight at the heart.

Application

Today, take a moment to check your "why." Before you serve, pray, or help someone, ask the Lord to align your heart with your actions. It is better to do one small thing with a whole heart than a hundred things with a divided one. Try to offer God your sincere attention in every task you do today.

Prayer

Lord, please forgive me for the times I just go through the motions of faith. Give me an undivided heart that truly loves and seeks You above all else. Help my inner life match my outward actions today. Amen.
