Finding Real Confidence in Your Prayer Life

Have you ever felt like you're talking to a brick wall when you pray? It's a common struggle to wonder if our words are actually reaching God or if they’re just disappearing into the air. But today’s verse offers a beautiful promise that changes everything about how we approach our Heavenly Father.

In 1 John 5:14, we find this incredible assurance: ¶ And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us:. The Greek word for confidence here is parrēsía, which means "boldness" or "freedom of speech." It’s the kind of blunt honesty you’d have with a best friend or a loving parent. God doesn't want us to come to Him timidly or with scripted, fancy words. He wants us to speak freely, knowing that the door to His throne room is always wide open for us through Jesus.

The secret to this bold confidence isn't about trying to "force" God to do what we want. Instead, it’s about alignment. When we pray "according to his will," we’re essentially saying, "Lord, I want what You want." It's just like what Jesus taught us in Matthew 6:10 when He said, "Thy will be done." When our hearts start to beat in rhythm with God's heart, we can be certain that He is not just hearing us—He is actively listening and moving on our behalf.

Application

Today, before you jump into your list of requests, take a moment to ask God, "What is Your heart for this situation?" Try shifting one of your prayers from "Lord, do this for me" to "Lord, show me Your will in this, and help me want that too."

Father, thank You for listening to me today. Help me to trust Your wisdom more than my own desires and give me the boldness to come to You with everything on my heart. Amen.
