  1. But if it was known that the ox had a habit of goring, yet its owner failed to restrain it, he shall pay full compensation, ox for ox, and the dead animal will be his.

  2. “If a man steals an ox or a sheep and slaughters or sells it, he must repay five oxen for an ox and four sheep for a sheep.

  3. If a thief is caught breaking in and is beaten to death, no one shall be guilty of bloodshed.

  4. But if it happens after sunrise, there is guilt for his bloodshed. A thief must make full restitution; if he has nothing, he himself shall be sold for his theft.

  5. If what was stolen is actually found alive in his possession—whether ox or donkey or sheep—he must pay back double.

  7. or anything else about which he has sworn falsely. He must make restitution in full, add a fifth of the value, and pay it to the owner on the day he acknowledges his guilt.

  8. Whoever kills an animal must make restitution—life for life.
