Then Jesus called his disciples [unto him], and said, I have compassion on the multitude, because they continue with me now three days, and have nothing to eat: and I will not send them away fasting, lest they faint in the way.
And if I send them away fasting to their own houses, they will faint by the way: for divers of them came from far.

I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess.
And they took their bones, and buried [them] under a tree at Jabesh, and fasted seven days.
¶ So the people of Nineveh believed God, and proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them even to the least of them.
¶ Then I proclaimed a fast there, at the river of Ahava, that we might afflict ourselves before our God, to seek of him a right way for us, and for our little ones, and for all our substance.
