The Unshakeable Foundation of Your Faith

Have you ever felt the ground shifting beneath your feet? In a world where "truth" fluctuates and leaders often falter, it is easy to feel unsteady.

Paul provides a profound assurance in 2 Timothy 2:19, stating, "¶ Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.." Even when others wander from the truth or promote error, God’s work does not crumble. He describes it as a themélios, which refers to a solid, unmovable base. Like a building anchored to bedrock, no matter how hard the wind blows, that foundation is immoveable.

This foundation bears a "seal" with two sides. On one side, it says the Lord ginṓskō those who are His. This is more than corporate knowledge; it is a deep, personal recognition, much like how Jesus describes His sheep in John 10:14. The other side of the seal is our responsibility: if we claim to belong to Him, we must depart from iniquity. This is not about being perfect to earn His love, but about moving in a new direction because we already belong to Him.

Application

Today, rest in the fact that God knows you personally and has claimed you. Ask Him if there is one specific habit or iniquity you need to renounce today to better reflect the name of Christ to those around you.

Lord, thank You for being my solid ground when everything else feels shaky. Thank You for knowing me by name and holding me secure; help me to live a life that honors Your name today. Amen.
