Have you ever tried to explain a complex movie plot to a friend when you barely understood it yourself? It usually ends in a lot of “umms” and “I think so.” The same is true for our faith. We cannot effectively share what we have not first grasped deep within our own hearts.
In Psalm 119:27, the psalmist cries out, “Make me to understand the way of thy precepts: so shall I talk of thy wondrous works..” This prayer comes from a place of deep spiritual exhaustion, where the writer admits he cannot simply “figure out” God’s truth through his own intellect. He asks God for bîn, a word that describes a discerning, deep comprehension that separates truth from confusion. It is a humble admission that we are completely dependent on the Lord to turn the lights on in our souls so we can see the path ahead.
There is a beautiful cause-and-effect relationship at work here. Once God provides that internal light, the natural result is an outward testimony. We begin to talk of His pāláʾ—those extraordinary, awe-inspiring acts of God that transcend human ability. Just as Jesus opened the minds of His disciples in Luke 24:45 so they could finally see how the whole story pointed to Him, God wants to give you a fresh “aha!” moment today that turns your private study into a public song of praise.
Application
Today, before you open your Bible, stop and pray the first half of this verse: “Make me to understand.” Then, look for one “wondrous work” God has done in your life this week—perhaps a small provision or a moment of peace—and share that specific story with one person you encounter today.

Lord, please open my eyes to the beauty of Your truth today. Don’t let Your Word just stay on the page; let it settle deep in my heart so I can’t help but tell others how great You are. Amen.
