Bringing Your Best to God's Building

Have you ever felt that your everyday skills—like organizing a closet, fixing a car, or sewing a button—don't really count as ministry? We often assume God only employs preachers or musicians, but the Bible tells a different story about how He builds His kingdom through the unique talents He gives to each of us.

In Exodus 35:10, Moses gives a special invitation to the people of Israel: "And every wise hearted among you shall come, and make all that the LORD hath commanded;." This invitation followed a season of national renewal. As they prepared to build the Tabernacle—the holy place where God's presence would dwell—Moses didn't just look for the most "religious" people. He sought the wise hearted. God didn't just want their gold and silver; He desired their time, effort, and specific, hands-on talents to make His vision a reality.

The phrase "wise hearted" comes from the Hebrew words ḥākām, meaning skillful or expert, and lēb, which refers to our inner will, mind, and heart. This reveals that God views practical skills as a spiritual endowment. Just as He called those artisans in the wilderness, Ephesians 2:10 reminds us that we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works. Your ability to solve a complex problem, create beauty, or manage a household is a gift to be returned to Him for His glory.

Application

Today, view your "to-do" list through a new lens. Choose one task requiring skill or creativity and consciously offer it to the Lord. Rather than rushing, perform it with the excellence of a sanctuary craftsman, knowing that even the smallest task is an act of worship when done for Him.

Lord, thank You for the unique skills You have placed in my life. Help me to see my daily work as a way to honor You and serve others with a wise heart. Amen.
