A Love More Constant Than the Stars

Have you ever looked up at the night sky and felt a sense of peace just knowing the moon would be there? In a world where everything feels like it’s shifting under our feet—from our jobs to our health—we all crave something that stays put.

In Psalms 72:5, which says, "They shall fear thee as long as the sun and moon endure, throughout all generations.," we find a beautiful promise about the kingdom of Jesus. Just as the šemeš, or sun, is a reliable source of light every single morning, God’s reign is meant to be the steady foundation of our lives. This isn't just a wish for an earthly king to have a long life; it's a vision of a kingdom that outlasts time itself.

The Bible uses the word yārēʾ to describe the 'fear' mentioned here. It doesn't mean we should be terrified of God. Instead, it’s about a deep, heart-stopping reverence—the kind of awe you feel when you realize the Creator of the universe actually knows your name. This awe is supposed to be passed down 'throughout all generations.' As Jeremiah 31:35-36 reminds us, God’s commitment to His people is as fixed and enduring as the celestial bodies He created.

Today, take a moment to look at the sky. Whether it's the bright sun or the glowing moon, let it be a 'reset' button for your spirit. Remind yourself that God’s authority and His love for you aren't going anywhere. Then, try to share one story of God’s faithfulness with someone younger than you—a child, a neighbor, or a friend—to help pass that legacy of worship along.

Lord, thank You for being the one constant in my changing world. May my love and respect for You be as steady as the rising sun. Help me to live in a way that points the next generation toward Your eternal kingdom. Amen.
