When You Feel Like You've Blown It

Have you ever felt like you’ve used up all your 'second chances' with God? Maybe you’ve struggled with the same habit for years, or you feel like your latest mistake was the final straw. If you’ve ever worried that God is finally done with you, today’s verse is a life-raft.

Psalm 106 is essentially a long list of all the times the people of Israel messed up. They complained in the desert, they doubted God’s power, and they walked away from Him over and over. But right in the middle of their failure, we find this incredible turning point: And he remembered for them his covenant, and repented according to the multitude of his mercies.. The Bible says God 'remembered' His covenant. The Hebrew word used here is zakar. It doesn't mean God simply had a thought pop into His head. It means He looked at His promise and moved into action to help His people.

The verse also tells us that God relented because of the 'multitude of his mercies.' The word for mercy here is chesed, which refers to a deep, loyal, 'I’m-never-leaving-you' kind of love. It’s like a parent who keeps the porch light on for a wandering child. This is the same heart we see in 2 Timothy 2:13, which reminds us that even when we are faithless, God remains faithful. He isn't keeping a scorecard of your failures today; He is looking at the promise He made through Jesus and choosing to be kind to you because that is who He is.

Application

Today, take five minutes to be honest with God about a mistake you’re dwelling on. Instead of hiding in shame, say this: 'Lord, I am leaning on Your multitude of mercies today.' Let His faithfulness be bigger than your failure and allow His love to give you a fresh start.

Prayer

Lord, thank You for being more faithful to me than I am to You. When I feel like I've failed, remind me that Your love is based on Your promise, not my perfection. Amen.
