  1. Then Moses said, “Please show me Your glory.”

  2. “I will cause all My goodness to pass before you,” the LORD replied, “and I will proclaim My name—the LORD—in your presence. I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.”

  3. But He added, “You cannot see My face, for no one can see Me and live.”

  4. The LORD continued, “There is a place near Me where you are to stand upon a rock,

  5. and when My glory passes by, I will put you in a cleft of the rock and cover you with My hand until I have passed by.

  6. Then I will take My hand away, and you will see My back; but My face must not be seen.”

  7. And the LORD descended in a cloud, stood with him there, and proclaimed His name, the LORD.

  8. Then the LORD passed in front of Moses and called out: “The LORD, the LORD God, is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in loving devotion and faithfulness,

  9. maintaining loving devotion to a thousand generations, forgiving iniquity, transgression, and sin. Yet He will by no means leave the guilty unpunished; He will visit the iniquity of the fathers on their children and grandchildren to the third and fourth generations.”

  10. Moses immediately bowed down to the ground and worshiped.
